Sylvan Lake is recognized for its magnificent natural lake setting, which is visited by an upwards of a million visitors each year is truly a destination for everyone, "season after season".

The people of Sylvan Lake take pride in the natural beauty of the lake. Residents, visitors, business and government work together to preserve, maintain and enhance our beautiful natural surroundings. All neighborhoods have attractive recreational and pleasure green spaces. The trails, parks, beaches, lake and facilities are clean and accessible. The community uses sound environmental and energy efficient practices.

Life at a Provincial Park
Alberta Community Development, are wardens of Alberta’s natural heritage, caring for the brilliant landscape within Provincial Parks and protected areas. It is these Provincial parks that preserve the natural areas of Canada and offer protection to the wildlife, plant life and unique landscape.

Central Alberta is an outdoor playground made up of rolling foothills, astonishing prairie vistas and vast lakes. Many of these regions attract a broad array of tourists, as they provide a range of outdoor recreation, interpretive and environmental education opportunities, facilities and services. These enable Albertans and visitors to experience, enjoy, explore and learn to understand and appreciate our natural, historical and cultural heritage.

Visitors to these areas will find that the small towns and rural communities of central Alberta welcome them with warmth and friendly western hospitality at the many attractions and events held year-round.

Sylvan Lake is no exception to Alberta Community Development’s parks. Sylvan Lake Provincial Park contains an expansive lake with a 1.6 km long sand and grass beach. These areas are home to yearly special events, including several beach volleyball tournaments, winter activities , and many community celebrations.

Sylvan Lake Provincial Park, is a “Day Use Only” park in which overnight camping is not permitted. There are however many camping facilities in and around the Sylvan Lake area.

As residents of Sylvan Lake, we have a incredible opportunity and responsibility to enhance park stewardship and to show our astuteness as model provincial park residents. Help to keep Sylvan Lake a warm, friendly and clean place in which to live and visit.

The Community of Sylvan Lake
Sylvan Lake is a community of good neighbors with a spirit of caring and cooperation. People share a strong sense of belonging and pride in the community. People are safe in Sylvan Lake- at home, school, at work and on the streets. Crime is rare. Injuries are few. Children, Youth, Adults, Senior’s and Families are respected, valued, and have a vital role in the life of the community. All take a lead in planning community activities & celebrations.

People communicate, are informed and involved in community life. Citizens, agencies, institutions and elected officials connect well with each other. Citizen input is sought, valued and used in making decisions for Sylvan Lake. Information shared is timely and clear on community events, issues, programs, events and services. Public, private and volunteer organizations work together. Everyone shares in community work and leisure.

Children, Youth, Adults, Senior’s and Families are healthy in mind body and spirit. Information, support and resources are available and provided locally to make wise health decisions. Caring, qualified personnel provide competent service to all age groups.

Sylvan Lake Community balances the best of small town atmosphere with the advantages of healthy growth. There is a blend of residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, commercial districts and public facilities. A variety of housing and transportation choices exist to suit all citizens’ social and physical needs.
